Sweeter Than Revenge
February 8, 2010
I occasionally enjoy cooking and baking. And when I’m in the middle of the process, it always comes to my mind that I like it because I don’t have to do it every single day. Anyhow, yesterday I started watching Pushing Daisies (season 2) knowing that the inevitable was about to occur: a beautiful take of a beautiful pie just right in front of my eyes. I HAD to eat a piece of cake. So I decided to bake a jam tart which is one of the simplest recipes I know (it takes me more time to reunite all the ingredients on the table than making the dough) and one of the most loved here in my house.
I want to share it here, let’s start with the goodies (by the way, this is a good site for weight conversions):
• 200 gr flour (mine comes with baking powder)
• 150 gr sugar
• 2 eggs
• 80 gr butter (room temperature)
• baking powder
• jam or whatever you want on it
1) Preheat oven. Butter a cast iron pan. Mix flour, sugar and baking powder in a large bowl.
2) Add the butter and one of the eggs, then start kneading.
3) If the dough is too dry, add the other egg (start by adding the yolk, if it’s still dry then add the egg white. If that doesn’t work, add milk).
4) Distribute the dough on the pan and add the jam. Note: if you want you can leave some dough to put on the jam like this. I never do this, too lazy :P
5) Before putting it in the oven, turn the heat down a bit. I wish I could say “bake until a tester inserted into center comes out clean” but nope, you’ll mostly have to check on it from time to time. It usually takes 20 min. And voilà:

Believe me, watching “Pushing Daisies” with something sweet nearby it’s a lot better. I’ve never written a recipe before but I hope the directions are not too confusing.
